The study aimed to design an electronic attendance system to solve the problem of teacher absence and to know the effectiveness of the system design for the directorate of teaching affairs in the College of Dentistry. The researcher used the descriptive approach to suit it with the nature and objectives of this study. The study was limited to a sample of faculty members and their assistants, numbering (97 members) in the first semester of the academic year (2023-2024 AD). The researcher designed the electronic attendance system (quick response) following the waterfall model, and the researcher used (Structured Query Language Server) and (C#) in designing and programming the system. After obtaining approval to implement the study, the researcher prepared the questionnaire according to a five-point Likert scale to measure the effectiveness of the system, and then presented the designed system and questionnaire to arbitrators specialized in this field. To ensure the validity and reliability of the study tool, it was applied to an exploratory sample, where the reliability coefficient was Cronbach’s alpha for the effectiveness of the design. The electronic attendance system is greater than 0.60, using the statistical program (SPSS-25), then calculating the arithmetic means, standard deviations, and relative weights, and a one-sample T-test to find out the direction of the study sample members’ opinions about the system, and a T-test for two independent samples to test the differences between male answers. And females on the topics of the study, and a one-way analysis of variance (One Way ANOVA) to test the significance of the differences on the topics of the study depending on the personal characteristics of the members of the study sample (age, academic degree, years of service).
The current study reached the following results:
The degree of effectiveness of the design of the electronic attendance system is very high, in addition to the absence of statistically significant differences between the averages of the sample members’ answers about the effectiveness of the design of the electronic attendance system for the management of educational affairs due to the variables (gender, age, academic degree, and years of service), and this indicates the homogeneity of the sample.
The researcher attributes this result to the validity of what some literature asserts that electronic attendance systems have an effective impact on the continuation of the learning process because they care about the teacher, who is the basis of the educational process. The researcher recommended several recommendations, the most important of which is introducing the importance of electronic attendance systems, holding training courses for users of the systems and promoting their use.
