Abstract

This research aimed to find out the challenges hindering the development of university environment at the Faculty of Education, Tur Al-Baha, and the methods of treating them. The researcher used the descriptive survey approach and the questionnaire as an instrument of data collection which consisted of (45) items distributed on (6) areas: infrastructure, financial aspects, curricula, faculty members, students, and administrative organization. After checking the validity and reliability of the instrument, it was applied on a sample of (24) members selected by a simple random sampling. The findings of the study show that the challenges hindering the development of university environment at the Faculty of Education, Tur Al-Baha, University of Lahej, are (high) in general. The degrees of challenges are in the following order: curricula (medium), faculty members (medium), administrative organization (medium), infrastructure (high), financial system (high), students (high). The results of the study show that there are no statistically significant differences at a significant level (α=0.05) due to variables (job- years of service- scientific department) in all areas. To overcome these challenges, in light of quality and taking into consideration the educational system in the country, the following treatments should be adapted: - The faculty ability to perform efficiently: It could be achieved by the availability of a specific message, knowledgeable and qualified academic and administrative leadership, financial resources, and logistic supportive facilities. - Achieving high levels of educational effectiveness: that should be based on objective and scientific standards in defining precise specifications of the graduate and which are targeted by the labor market needs, adapt accredited academic criteria, designing programs and courses that match these standards, providing modern and suitable types and methods of teaching and learning that achieve targeted outcomes, academic and material support for students, availability of highly qualified faculty staff and their assistants, continuous and objective evaluation of learning outcomes, and plans for enhancement and development.  In light of these findings, the study concludes with a number of recommendations to overcome different challenges following these procedures.
