Abstract

The research aimed to present a number of phonological phenomena which deviated from the standard phonology and were different from it in the book Lisan al-Arab by Ibn Mandhur, and it aimed to explain this dissimilation by grammarians.

This research revealed that this dissimilation was either to avoid a confusion in meaning between them and other word or because of illusion, the occurrence of a vowel letter in the place of a consonant letter, or to hint the archaic stem, or other reasons. The research also revealed that Ibn Mandhur gave explanations in some cases only. The study used the induction and analysis-based descriptive approach.
