Psychological Adjustment and its Relationship to Academic Achievement Among Students of Faculties of Education in University of Lahj

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to investigate the characteristics of psychological and social Compatibility and academic achievement among students of Lahj University in Yemen. And to detection of differences in the psychological social Compatibility among students of the faculties of education at the University of Lahj according to the gender variable (male, female), and also according to the academic level variable (second, fourth)

Hypothesis: The hypotheses of this study were as follows:

1- The psychological and social Compatibility of the students of the faculties of education at the University of Lahj is high.

2- There is a relationship between psychological and social Compatibility and academic achievement among students in the colleges of education at Lahj University.

3- There are statistically significant differences in the psychological and social Compatibility among the students of the faculties of education at the University of Lahj due to the gender variable (male, female). 

4- There are statistically significant differences in the psychological and social Compatibility among the students of the faculties of education at the University of Lahj, according to the variable of the academic level (second, fourth).

Sample:  For the present purpose 80 students among them (40 males and 40 female) were selected by purposive sampling method.

Tools: The following tools were applied:

1- The psychological Compatibility scale contains (20) items. (3) answer alternatives were developed, which are: (often, sometimes, rarely).

2- Social Compatibility Scale: It also contains (20) items, in which (3) answer alternatives were developed, which are: (Yes, sometimes, it does not happen).

Both scales were written by: Muhammad Ahmed Ibrahim, Maab Abdul Nabi Idris.

Result: showed that:

- The psychological and social Compatibility among students of the colleges of education at Lahj University is characterized by low.

- There is a positive correlation between psychological and social Compatibility and academic achievement.

- There are statistically significant differences in the psychological and social Compatibility of students in the colleges of education at Lahj University according to the gender variable in favor of males.

- There are statistically significant differences in the psychological and social Compatibility of students in the colleges of education at Lahj University according to the academic level variable, in favor of the fourth level.
