Abstract

The central idea of this research revolves around examining the methodologies of authenticity (authenticity) and modernity (modernity) in reading the history of the Companions of the Prophet. The study seeks to deduce the foundational principles upon which these methodologies rely in their respective interpretations, as well as the approaches they adopt in treating historical narratives. The significance of the research lies in the profound impact that the era of the Companions and the manner in which it is read has had on subsequent intellectual movements. The research problem is rooted in the multiplicity of methodologies employed in reading the history of the Companions, which vary significantly in their epistemological foundations and starting points. The study concludes that the contemporary intellectual landscape is in urgent need of interpretations that are in harmony with the spirit and challenges of the current age, given the ever-renewing nature of this issue in various forms throughout time. Therefore, the researcher contends that further engagement is required to address both the lingering effects of earlier interpretations and the emerging modernist contentions.
