Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the level of mathematical representation skills among ninth-grade students in Lahj Governorate. To achieve this, the researcher prepared a test consisting of (20) items distributed across three skills: translating mathematical expressions into mathematical representations, translating graphs and images into mathematical expressions, and translating graphs into tables and vice versa.

To achieve the study's objective, the researcher used the descriptive approach suitable for this study and applied the test to a sample of (451) students who were intentionally selected from the Radfan and Habil Jabr districts in the second semester of the academic year 2023/2024 AD. The results showed a low level of all the skills under study; where:

-The skill of translating mathematical expressions into mathematical representations achieved an average percentage of (38.57%).

-The skill of translating graphs and images into mathematical expressions achieved an average percentage of (36%).

-The skill of translating graphs into tables and vice versa achieved an average percentage of (36.66%).

The study recommended the necessity of training teachers of mathematics to employ mathematical representation skills in teaching.
