This study aimed to identify the psychological-social needs and personal traits of academically outstanding students in secondary schools in Shabwa Governorate. It also sought to examine the differences in psychological-social needs and personal traits among these students based on gender (male/female) and geographical location (rural/urban).
To achieve the study's objectives, the researcher employed a descriptive-analytical approach and developed two measurement tools: the first axis focused on the Psychological-Social Needs Scale, while the second axis addressed the Personal Traits Scale for academically outstanding students in secondary schools in Shabwa.
The study sample consisted of 416 students, including 211 males and 205 females, with 208 students from rural areas and 208 from urban areas. Participants were purposively selected from several secondary schools in Shabwa, specifically those who excelled academically in their respective classes.
The researcher administered the questionnaire to the study sample and utilized the following statistical methods: frequencies and percentages, Cronbach's alpha, means and standard deviations, Kolmogorov-Smirnov Z test, Z-test, and effect size.
The results indicated that the psychological-social needs of academically outstanding students in secondary schools in Shabwa were at a moderate level, and their personal traits also scored at a moderate level. Furthermore, the study found no statistically significant differences between the means of psychological-social needs among academically outstanding students based on gender. However, there were statistically significant differences in personal traits attributed to the gender of academically outstanding students in secondary schools in Shabwa.
Additionally, a statistically significant difference was found between the means of personal traits based on geographical location (rural vs. urban), while no significant difference was observed in the means of psychological needs based on geographical location.
