Attitudes of Students at the University of Science and Technology - Main Center, Aden - Towards Skills-Based Courses (Critical Thinking Skills, Leadership Skills, Communication Skills) and Their Relationship to Their Future Professional Specializations

This study aimed to measure the attitudes of students at the Yemeni University of Science and Technology - Main Center, Aden - towards skills-based courses: (critical thinking skills, leadership skills, and communication skills). To achieve the study's objectives, the descriptive methodology was used. A 72-item instrument was developed, distributed across three main domains: the skills themselves, enjoyment of the skills, and the future career relevance of the skills. After verifying the instrument's validity and reliability, it was distributed to a sample of (293) students from the faculties of (Medicine and Health Sciences, Engineering and Computing, and Administrative and Human Sciences) at the University of Science and Technology. The study revealed the following results:
- The attitudes of the University of Science and Technology students towards the skills-based courses (critical thinking, leadership skills, and communication skills) were high for each skill individually and for all three skills combined. The mean scores were: critical thinking (3.63), leadership skills (3.71), and communication skills (3.73). The overall mean score was (3.69) with a standard deviation of (0.73).
- There are no statistically significant differences at the (α = 0.05) level in the attitudes of the University of Science and Technology/Aden students towards skills-based courses as a whole that can be attributed to the gender variable.
- There are statistically significant differences at the (α = 0.05) level in the attitudes of the University of Science and Technology/Aden students towards skills-based courses that can be attributed to the college variable, in favor of the Faculty of Engineering and Computing.
- There is a positive and statistically significant correlation at the (α = 0.05) level between the attitudes of the University of Science and Technology/Aden students towards the skills-based courses (critical thinking, leadership skills, and communication skills) and the skills as a whole, and their future career path.
