The study aimed to diagnose the level of administrative performance of heads of academic departments at Radfan University College, identify strengths and weaknesses in their administrative practices, determine major challenges limiting their performance, and propose a developmental framework for improvement. A descriptive–analytical method was employed, and a questionnaire consisting of five domains was administered to a sample of (111) Educational and auxiliary body. Data were analyzed using means, standard deviations, t-tests, and one-way ANOVA.
The findings revealed that the administrative performance of department heads was rated high in most domains, while the challenges domain scored at a moderate level. No statistically significant differences were found across the study variables. Additionally, several obstacles were identified, including limited authority, weak incentives, and centralized decision-making.
The study recommends empowering department heads with greater authority, providing continuous professional-development programs, improving the work environment, and establishing clear criteria for selecting academic leaders.
